How we treat crow's feet

  1. Start with a consultation

Come in for a consultation. Your provider will look at the area around your eyes, listen to your goals, and talk you through your options.

  2. Neurotoxin

    • The treatment most often used for lines driven by muscle movement.
    • We use BOTOX® Cosmetic and XEOMIN®.
    • Both are FDA approved for adults with moderate to severe crow's feet.
  3. If skin quality is the concern

    • Medical-grade skin care supports the long-term health of your skin.
    • SkinPen® microneedling boosts collagen and elastin for smoother, firmer skin.
What it is

What Are Crow's Feet?

Crow's feet are the fine lines that fan out from the outer corner of each eye. They come from the ring of muscle that closes the eyelid, which moves every time you blink or smile.

The skin here is the thinnest on your face and sits directly over that muscle, so it creases sooner than skin elsewhere.

How these lines are usually described

  • Fine lines fanning from the outer corner of the eye when smiling
  • Lines that remain faintly visible once the smile has gone
  • Makeup settling into the lines through the day
  • A finer texture to the skin in bright light
  • A difference between the two eyes, which is common and entirely normal

What contributes to them

  • Repeated contraction of the orbicularis oculi through smiling and blinking
  • Squinting against sunlight, glare off snow, and reflected light off water
  • The naturally fine skin of the area around the eye
  • Cumulative ultraviolet exposure over years
  • Natural shifts in the skin's collagen and elastin with age
Understanding Crow's Feet

How Crow's Feet Develop in Northeastern Pennsylvania

Crow's feet form where the skin around your eyes sits over a muscle that moves every time you blink or smile. Squinting deepens them, and northeastern Pennsylvania gives you plenty to squint at: snow glare in winter, open water in summer. Sunglasses help more than most people expect.

Prevention and treatment

How to Prevent and Treat Crow's Feet

  • Wear wraparound sunglasses year round, not just in summer.
  • Use daily sun protection, including on bright winter days.
  • Ask about neurotoxin, Botox®, Dysport®, or Xeomin®, for lines driven by muscle movement.
  • Ask about SkinPen® microneedling or medical-grade skin care where the texture of the skin is the concern.
Questions

Crow's Feet: common questions

What causes crow's feet?

Crow's feet come primarily from repeated contraction of the orbicularis oculi, the ring of muscle that closes the eyelid, combined with the naturally fine skin around the eye and cumulative sun exposure.

Do outdoor winter activities affect the lines around the eyes?

Fresh snow reflects a large share of the ultraviolet light that falls on it, and bright light prompts squinting, which contracts the muscle involved. Wraparound eye protection outdoors helps.

Can lines around the eyes be softened without removing them entirely?

Yes. Tell your provider what you would like to keep as well as what you would like to address, and they will build the plan around that.
