Northern Monroe County

About Monroe County

We welcome patients from across Monroe County and the Poconos, many from Tobyhanna, Coolbaugh Township, Mount Pocono and Pocono Pines.

Monroe County had 168,327 residents at the 2020 census, making it the most populous county on the eastern side of the region.

Coolbaugh Township had 20,805 residents in 2020 and Mount Pocono borough 3,089, so the northern tier is more populous than its small borough names suggest.

Interstate 380 runs north from the Pocono plateau toward Scranton, linking the northern tier of the county to the Lackawanna Valley.

The Pocono Mountains are one of Pennsylvania's largest resort regions, with lakes, ski areas and state forest across the plateau.

Roughly 23 percent of Monroe County homes sit vacant at any one time, a reflection of how much of the Pocono housing stock is seasonal or second-home.

Regional conditions

How the Monroe County Climate Affects Your Skin

The Poconos sit high, and the weather up on the plateau can be quite different than in nearby valleys. Winters are often long and snowy, with ski areas running through the season with fresh snow reflecting a large share of the ultraviolet light that falls on it. Summers bring long bright days on the lakes. Both reflect light up at angles direct sun never reaches.

That is why daily sun protection and medical-grade skin care come up in almost every consultation we have with patients from the Poconos. Treatments that benefit from a quieter stretch, such as a SkinPen® microneedling series, are often best suited for the shoulder seasons here. Your provider will talk the timing through with you and build a plan that fits your schedule.
